A fixed-rate CD is a financial product that pays a fixed interest rate for a set period of time or term. By depositing your money into a fixed-rate CD, you lock in your interest rate until your CD matures.
You start to earn interest on the business day you make your deposit, or when your deposit is received through electronic transfer, up to your maturity date.
For a 3 month CD, your interest compounds monthly and is paid monthly back to the account.
For a 6 month CD, your interest is paid at maturity back to the account.
For a 12 month CD, your interest compounds quarterly (every 3 months), and is paid quarterly back to the account.
Funds on deposit will be FDIC insured to the legal maximum of $250,000 for each ownership category. For more information, click here.
The penalty for early withdrawal on a 12 month CD is 6 months of interest.
The penalty for early withdrawal on a 3 or 6 month CD is 1 month of interest.
No. Once you open your account and fund your CD, you cannot add funds to the account until the CD matures.
